Steps to Quit

To successfully stop smoking you have to:

  • Really want to stop
  • Understand why you smoked in the past
  • Understand why you smoke now
  • Plan ahead and know how to avoid temptations
  • Have support and encouragement
  • Want to be a non-smoker and see yourself as one

It's not easy to stop smoking but you can do it. Remember that it takes time to quit smoking. Most smokers move backwards and forwards through the 4 steps of quitting until they successfully quit.

Go to the step based on where you are at. You can then focus on the step that best relates to your current situation.

Or, if you're not quite ready to quit, why not have a quick read of the four steps of quitting so you have a good idea of what to expect through the quitting process. Then, when you are ready to quit, go through it another time, making sure you take the time to complete the activities and really think about what you are doing.
