Nicotine gum

Gives you nicotine on demand. Nicotine gum is not to be chewed like regular gum, but used as an oral patch. The recommended technique is rest-chew-rest. This is because any nicotine that you swallow is wasted. Flatten the gum and place between your cheek and gum so nicotine gets absorbed through the lining of your mouth. Discard after 30 minutes.
[Available in standard (2mg) strength and extra (4mg) strength]

Nicotine patches

Give you a constant supply of nicotine. Change patches and move to a new site daily to avoid skin irritation.
[Available in a 16 hour (15mg) and 24 hour (21mg) variety]

Nicotine Tablets

The nicotine tablet is a small tablet containing nicotine that dissolves under your tongue. You should avoid chewing, sucking or swallowing the nicotine tablet as this reduces the amount of nicotine you get.
[Available in standard (2mg) strength]

Nicotine lozenge

Is similar to a sweet that you suck slowly. It gives you nicotine in a similar way to the nicotine tablet.
[Available in standard (2mg) strength and extra (4mg) strength]

Nicotine Inhaler

is a mouthpiece and plastic tube with a cartridge filled with nicotine. By sucking on the mouthpiece, a nicotine vapour is released and absorbed through your mouth and throat. Inhalers are useful for people who miss the hand-to-mouth action for smoking.
[Strength is similar to the standard (2mg) strength of the gum, lozenge and tablet]

Unproven Tools

These include acupuncture, hypnotherapy, glucose tablets, lobeline, silver compounds
